Mechanics Bank Stinks
I recently gave a check for $1,000.00 to a friend of mine. The check I wrote was on an account that I have with Mechanics Bank in Seaside, California. My friend could have deposited the check into her own bank account. Doing so would have her bank account put
a hold on the check for at least 1 day, maybe longer. She needed to use some of that money that day. So, she went to my Mechanics Bank, where the account was, to just cash the check. When she went to my Mechanics Bank, the teller asked her if she had an account there. When she told the teller 'no' that she didn't have an account at Mechanics Bank, she was then told that they could cash the check, but, there would be a $6.00 charge. My burning question is why the $6.00 charge? She was at the Mechanics Bank branch where the account was located, she had proper identification, there was plenty of money to cover the check, yet, they wanted to charge her $6.00.

WHY?
